AZOUZI MOHAMED
Born in 1946, the Moroccan painter Azouzi Mohamed, originally from Tafilalet, joined the School of Fine Arts in Casablanca at the age of 20. In 1971, Azouzi continued his artistic studies at the National School of Fine Arts and the National School of Decorative Arts in Paris, where he eventually settled.
Azouzi exhibited for the first time in Casablanca in 1970. Numerous exhibitions followed in the French capital and around the world, including Tokyo, New York, Moscow, and more.
His works is featured in many prestigious collections, including those of the Musée d'Art Moderne de Paris, the Prints and Drawings Department at the National Library of France, the Taylor Foundation in Paris, as well as the O.N.A. Foundation in Rabat and the Hassan II Foundation in Morocco.
His art originates from the expression of typically Moroccan philosophies and traditions. His works are adorned with colors reminiscent of Africa but also softer pastel tones. The Moroccan painter adopts a non-figurative and calligraphic style.
The Noun, an Arabic alphabet letter, very present in his works, symbolized for him arms reaching towards the sky, knowledge, humanity, interaction, as well as solidarity between peoples and religions.
This Moroccan painter, known and recognized by his peers, unfortunately passed away in August 2022.
Today, his children work to disseminate the works of Azouzi Mohamed, this Humanist with a big heart, both in Morocco and abroad.
